Tree-planting at Milton TC
Jeff Truswell is the indefatigable Social Director for Milton TC, leading a committee which provides an extensive menu of special events each season. If you’re looking for ideas for a new event at your club, Jeff is a great person to speak to. Opening Day on May 11th featured the placement of a time capsule and also the planting of a tree.
Thanks to Jeff for this narrative of the tree ceremony :
Today, we are taking the time to plant a tree. Though sometimes planting a tree is related to remembering those we have lost (and we have lost many from our tennis family), we choose to plant a tree today to celebrate growth, prosperity and adaptation.
The Milton Tennis Club has evolved from a simple two-court location into the spectacular 8-court facility we have today. We have endured a world war, financial struggles, destroyed courts, and variable interest in the sport.
But we never gave up and now our membership numbers have grown, our programming has grown, our elite players have grown, and our love for tennis has grown. When a tree is nurtured, it evolves and grows into a healthy, life fulfilling essence. That’s what tennis is to us. It improves our mental and physical health, it gives us purpose and allows us to grow our personal and social selves.
We plant this dwarf blue spruce tree today as a symbol of the Milton Tennis Club’s strength and interconnectedness, resilience and perseverance.
