2024 SWR AGM

The 2024 annual meeting for SouthWest Region was held on Sunday November 24th.  There were 50 vibrant delegates gathered in the banquet room of Tyandaga Golf Course in Burlington for networking, information sharing and collaboration on topics of shared interest.

Ontario is divided into 10 regions for promoting and developing tennis across the province.  SouthWest Region is made up of Halton, Hamilton, Niagara and Haldimand-Norfolk.   A total of 25 clubs were represented at the meeting, which is believed to be a record number for the region.

We were honoured to have OTA CEO and president, Richard Mainella, as guest speaker, along with the OTA manager of membership & regional development, Andrew Chappell.  They provided us with print resources, promotional material and a selection of branded merchandise for draw prizes, and were eager participants in the small-group conversations.

The purpose of the annual gathering is to cultivate a sense of Region identity.  We live in a big province, so it’s helpful to get to know the clubs and players in our nearest vicinity.  We endeavour to support each other by sharing our successful ventures and experiences.  And when we have issues and challenges in common with others, we work on solutions together.

The meeting also illustrates the very broad range of experience and interests across the tennis spectrum.  There are advocates for youth tennis, for masters competition, for team tennis, for house league club play, for coach and official development, for equity issues, for facility improvement and expansion.  Tennis is a sport-for-life and the OTA serves both the participation experience and the performance experience.
