The Canada Games : “We’re here to strengthen the fabric of Canada through the power of sport. Coming together every two years, we elevate the best of our nation and spark future generations to achieve greatness both on and off the field of play.”

Every two years, the Canada Games brings together more than 2,000 able-bodied athletes and athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities for the largest amateur multi-sport event in the country. Alternating between winter and summer, they span over 30 different sports to showcase the very best in Canadian sport and spirit. The Games are held under the stewardship of the Canada Games Council who provide continuity, leadership and support. “We’re here to foster ongoing partnerships and ensure the Games leave an enduring legacy on communities from coast to coast to coast.”

The Hall of Honour recognizes exceptional Canada Games alumni who have sparked greatness by distinguishing themselves during the Games and beyond, while contributing to the growth of the Canada Games Movement. Following a nation-wide call for nominations, the inductees for the Hall of Honour are officially inducted into the Hall during a ceremony prior to the start of each Canada Games. The Hall of Honour was established at the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Doug Hamilton was Board Chair of the Niagara 2022 Host Society : “We are excited to be working alongside the Canada Games Council to recognize the achievements of these distinguished Canada Games alumni. In addition to welcoming great sport contributors like Steve Nash, Brian McKeever, and Tom Quinn, our Host Society takes immense pride in celebrating the contributions made to the Canada Games Movement by Michael Strange, Stacey Allaster, and Don Goodwin — who all have strong ties to the Niagara Region.”

The Hall of Honour Celebration took place on August 5, 2022 in Niagara Falls, on the eve of Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games, which ran from August 6-21. The evening was emceed by iconic Canadian broadcaster Ron MacLean and Olympic champion and Canada Games alum Catriona Le May Doan.
