2025 Niagara Slam

Each year in SouthWest Region we’re privileged to have three tournaments that are open to all comers and include multiple events and levels. While some of the participants enter more than one tournament, it’s safe to say that at least 300 individual players take advantage of these events as a memorable part of their summer tennis experience. To the best of our knowledge, there’s nothing else like it in the province.

We’re indebted to the Welland TC for hosting of the Rose City Classic in June, to Alex Bittermann and Greg Kirsten (Halton TA) for the Halton Championships in July, and to Munzil and Tan Qureshi for the Niagara Slam.

This year’s Niagara Slam was played from July 28 to August 10, on courts at the Pelham TC in Fenwick and at the Welland TC. Traditionally it had been hosted at the Fort Erie TC, where it became a successor to the longtime Can-Am cross-border friendship games, but the courts there are being readied for reconstruction this fall. Munzil expressed thanks to the new hosts for making 2025 a “Slam Dunk”.

A total of 148 players participated across all five singles and doubles categories. There were many familiar faces, and many new ones as well. Fellowship and a sense of community are an integral part of each day’s play. Players and spectators alike look forward to Munzil’s daily bulletins in the Niagara Tennis Network blog.
