2025 Steve Stevens
The 2025 edition of Canada’s annual Masters Championships was held on August 24-30, hosted by six clubs in Vancouver BC. A total of 573 players participated in categories from 30+ to 85+. Among them were a few from SouthWest Region who came away with national titles.
Congratulations to Brian Millar of the Carlisle TC, winner of both singles and doubles (with Steve Yesowick) in the 70+ division. Brian is well-known in Burlington, Kilbride and Carlisle as he and his wife Judith Pridham-Millar were beloved teaching pros throughout the area for decades.
Congratulations also to Alison Hannah-Taylor, winner of the 60+ singles and finalist in doubles (with Carol Lau). Alison is proud to represent the Welland TC, where she was in the same cohort as Stacey Allaster in their formative years with Dutchy Doerr. She talks about growing up in St Catharines in a profile HERE and her latest endeavours as a renowned coach on a podcast HERE.
And congratulations to Amina Moreau, winner of the 40+ singles and representing the Niagara Academy of Tennis. Amina grew up in Niagara-on-the-Lake and credits coach Doug Carter with building the foundation that took her to university scholarship tennis. She studied psychology and has since become a storyteller and a film-maker, as you can read HERE.
And very special congratulations to Anne Rungi and Rosanne Marsh of the Welland TC, who were stars of the 80+ singles and 75+ doubles events. Anne has been selected to captain Team Canada L80 in the 2025 World Championships in October in Bol Island, Croatia; and both Anne and Rosanne have qualified for the 2026 L80 Team Canada in Crete, Greece.
