BHDL Champions

The Burlington-Hamilton District Ladies inter-club team league wrapped up its 2025 season with final matches played at Cedar Springs on June 25th. Convened in recent times by Helen Donohoe and Dot Knight, the league has been active in various forms for at least 40 years.

With work schedules being more flexible than ever before, many women are available to play in the daytime, and the Wednesday morning time slot works well. So does the condensed schedule : the league begins in early May and wraps up at the end of June, getting the season off to a fast start but then opening up the summer months for other activities.

There were seven teams this year, and seven captains who are always key to the success of any league :

• Aldershot TC – Florina Allega
• Appleby TC – Pat Fujimoto
• Burlington TC – Chris Wilson
• Cedar Springs RC – Claire Salisbury
• Dundas TC – Shelley Fallon
• Roseland Park CC – Lan Burgess
• Tyandaga TC – Dot Knight

The team from Aldershot TC emerged as 2025 champions, as they had done in 2024. Appleby TC finished in second place, with both Dundas TC and Cedar Springs close behind.

The league plays an interesting format, with three courts and three rounds of play. Rounds are timed for half an hour, after which the home team players move to the next court. This allows for a full round-robin, with each pair playing against each of the other team’s pairs. It’s fun, social and competitive … the perfect blend.
