Halton Championships
Leanna Carpino not only shared in the prize money by winning the Open Mixed Doubles alongside partner Rishab Ravikanth, she also played a role in the management of the event as a key member of the Halton Tennis Association team..
The Halton Tennis Championships are the brainchild of Alex Bittermann and Greg Kirsten, who share an extensive tennis network and a passion for getting people together to enjoy the game. First held in 2023, the 2025 edition was played on July 14-20, again at Cedar Springs Racquet & Sportsclub. The entry was capped at 120 players and provided multiple categories in all five events. The courtside gallery tended to be full, the social events always well attended, the goodie bags and t-shirts much appreciated.
A total of $5000 was awarded in cash prizes, thanks to 12 sponsors. The complete draws, photos and credits to those sponsors can be found on the Halton TA website.
Also on the website are notes of appreciation sent by players after the event. We often mention to friends when we have a great experience, but tend to forget that the organizers would like to hear from us as well. Check out some testimonials here.
Title sponsor of the Halton Championships is Enter the Battlefield, and it’s a partnership built on shared values. Jay Grant is an avid tennis player, and also the owner of a specialty games store in Oakville called Enter the Battlefield. When we think of “a store”, however, we’re not generally imagining 10,000 square feet set up for extensive gathering events. For Jay, both tennis and games are all about gatherings, sharing our love of a sport or a game with a community of like-minded individuals. Both meet our need for a Third Place : somewhere other than home and work/school, where people accept us as we are and diverse friendships are formed.
Thanks to Jay, Greg, Alex, Leanna, the sponsors and all other contributors for a memorable week.
